On Wednesday Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp suffered a major outage with many people being unable to access the services for around eight hours.
There was speculation that this was down to a DDoS attack, Facebook has now confirmed this was not the case, the outage was down to a server issue.
Yesterday, as a result of a server configuration change, many people had trouble accessing our apps and services. We’ve now resolved the issues and our systems are recovering. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience.

Having all three social platforms with a major outage at the same time is not ideal, this is something that we may see more of in the future as Facebook has plans to integrate all three platforms.
