EE TV has today announced a major update to its service that brings with it a “My TV” section to enable viewers to personalise their TV experience as well as new on-demand apps.
Personalisation with My TV
The My TV feature includes the ability to add favourite programmes and channels, as well as use the new companion screen function. This companion screen takes the form of a second screen for additional information and interactivity for the media they are watching. This means viewers can access supplementary content such as behind-the-scenes footage, actor bios, and real-time social media updates without interrupting their main viewing experience.
Moreover, the My TV section allows users to create multiple profiles, ensuring that each family member can have a personalised viewing experience. This is particularly useful for households with diverse viewing preferences, as it allows each user to quickly access their favourite shows and channels without sifting through content that doesn’t interest them.
Enhanced On-Demand Apps
In addition to the My TV section, EE TV has introduced new on-demand apps that significantly expand the range of available content. These apps include popular streaming services, catch-up TV, and niche content providers, ensuring that there is something for everyone. The integration of these apps into the EE TV interface is seamless, allowing users to easily switch between live TV and on-demand content.
Even after the acquisition of EE by BT for £12.5bn, the company is still developing its EE TV. Simeon Bird, director of home broadband and TV at EE, explains:
The new EE TV features take the personalisation capability that all smartphone and tablet owners are familiar with, and incorporates it to create what we believe is the best multi-screen TV service available today
The Guardian reports that “EE reported 919,000 broadband customers as at the end of June, adding 50,000 in the first quarter and 35,000 in the second quarter.” This growth in broadband customers is a testament to the increasing demand for high-quality, personalised TV services.
