Jailbreaking the iPhone is no longer illegal thanks to the changes in the DMCA, although Apple doesn’t encourage you to do and it says it voids your iPhone warranty.
With the recent released of JailbreakMe, jailbreaking your iPhone couldn’t be easier, but will doing so make your iPhone a better smartphone?
Jailbreaking your iPhone 4 does a couple of things, one it lets you use free applications that aren’t available in Apple’s app store, and two, it lets you use your iPhone in ways that Apple doesn’t want you to, there is a downside to this though as your iPhone 4 is no longer supported by Apple should you have any problems.
One application which benefits from jailbreaking is Apple’s FaceTime video app, on a jailbroken iPhone 4 FaceTime can be used over 3G using an application from Cydia called My3G.
The iPhone 4 can only do video calls over WiFi on FaceTime at the moment, so people who want to use the service over 3G will probably consider jailbreaking their iPhone 4.
You can see FaceTime over 3G in the video above, as you can see from the video it looks pretty good quality, although this will depend on what level of 3G connection you have.
