The Dodge Viper has been canceled twice now and with the last cancellation not that far behind us, you might be surprised to hear that the car is being reborn. Car and Driver says that a new Viper is happening, and it will and as a 2021 model.
The car will be very different from what we remember with a spaceframe and independent front and rear suspension. The engine will be behind the front axle and it a V8 engine with an aluminum block That means no V10.
C&D expects about 550hp to start with and the car will likely have a naturally aspirated V8 to start with. A supercharged version of that V8 is expected as well pushing about 700hp, basically the Hellcat engine. There is no real detail on when the car might launch, but the prediction is perhaps at the 2019 Detroit auto show. Pricing is predicted to be under $90,000 for starters.
