Dell hasn’t as yet announced a follow-up to the Dell Streak, although it looks like they have a new device in the works, as a new ‘mobile Internet device’ from Dell has just received WiFi certification (PDF).
The WiFi Certification describes the new device from Dell as a ‘Category: Smartphone, dual-mode (Wi-Fi and cellular)’, and it is given the model number M01M.
This could possibly be the new Dell Streak 2. All we know about it so far is that it comes with support for 802.11 b/g/n WiFi. Unfortunately, there aren’t many other details as yet.
Potential Features and Specifications
Given the advancements in technology since the original Dell Streak, it’s reasonable to speculate that the Dell Streak 2 could come with a host of new features and improvements. The original Dell Streak was known for its 5-inch screen, which was quite large for its time. The new model might feature a larger display, possibly around 6 inches, to keep up with current trends in smartphone design. Additionally, we can expect a higher resolution screen, possibly Full HD or even Quad HD, to provide a better viewing experience.
In terms of processing power, the Dell Streak 2 could be equipped with a more powerful chipset, such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, to handle more demanding applications and multitasking. RAM could also see an upgrade, with 4GB or more being a likely inclusion to ensure smooth performance.
Software and Connectivity
On the software front, the Dell Streak 2 is likely to run a more recent version of the Android operating system, possibly Android 10 or 11, given the timeline. This would bring a host of new features, improved security, and better overall performance compared to its predecessor.
Connectivity options are also expected to be robust. In addition to the 802.11 b/g/n WiFi support mentioned in the certification, the Dell Streak 2 might include support for the latest WiFi 6 standard, which offers faster speeds and better performance in congested areas. Cellular connectivity could also see improvements, with support for 4G LTE and possibly even 5G, making it a future-proof device.
Camera and Battery Life
Cameras have become a crucial aspect of modern smartphones, and the Dell Streak 2 is likely to feature significant upgrades in this department. A dual or triple camera setup on the rear could be expected, with features like optical image stabilization, 4K video recording, and improved low-light performance. The front camera might also see enhancements, making it ideal for selfies and video calls.
Battery life is another area where the Dell Streak 2 could excel. With a larger battery capacity, possibly around 4000mAh or more, and support for fast charging technologies, users can expect longer usage times and quicker recharges.
Market Expectations and Release
The anticipation for the Dell Streak 2 is building, and many are hopeful that Dell will reveal more information at CES 2011 in January. CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is a major event where tech companies showcase their latest innovations, making it the perfect platform for Dell to unveil their new device.
If the Dell Streak 2 lives up to expectations, it could be a strong contender in the smartphone market, offering a blend of advanced features, robust performance, and modern design. As we await more details, the excitement continues to grow for what could be Dell’s next big hit in the mobile device arena.
