Cubiesteam has this week unveiled a new addition to their range with the unveiling of the new Cubietruck open source mini PC that is equipped with a dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor.
As well as being powered by the Allwinner processor, the Cubietruck is also fitted with 2GB of RAM and comes with both Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity together with Gigabit Ethernet connection.
Hardware Specifications and Features
The Cubietruck doesn’t come supplied with a case similar to the Raspberry Pi, and can be purchased as either a kit or fully assembled, depending on your requirements and skills. Measuring 4.3 x 3.1″ in size, the new Cubietruck open source mini PC is slightly bigger than a Cubieboard. This additional size allows for more robust hardware features and expandability options.
In addition to its dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor and 2GB of RAM, the Cubietruck includes a SATA port for connecting hard drives, making it an excellent choice for those looking to build a small server or network-attached storage (NAS) device. The inclusion of Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity ensures that the Cubietruck can easily connect to various peripherals and networks without the need for additional dongles or adapters. The Gigabit Ethernet connection provides fast and reliable wired network access, which is essential for data-intensive applications.
Software and Community Support
One of the standout features of the Cubietruck is its open-source nature. This means that users have the freedom to modify and customize the software to suit their specific needs. The Cubietruck supports a variety of operating systems, including popular Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora. This flexibility makes it an attractive option for developers, hobbyists, and educators who want to experiment with different software environments.
The Cubietruck also benefits from a strong community of users and developers who contribute to its ongoing development and support. Online forums, tutorials, and documentation are readily available, making it easier for newcomers to get started and for experienced users to troubleshoot and optimize their setups. This community-driven approach ensures that the Cubietruck remains a versatile and up-to-date platform for a wide range of applications.
Unfortunately, no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet for the Cubietruck, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.
