Earlier today we saw some new photos of the BlackBerry Priv and now the handset has been spotted in the Bluetooth SIG.
The handset is expected to go on sale some time next month, we are expecting an official announcement from BlackBerry about the handset at the end of this month or early in November.
BlackBerry’s First Android Venture
The Priv will be BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone, marking a significant shift for the company traditionally known for its proprietary operating system. The handset is rumored to feature a 5.4 inch Quad HD display, which promises to deliver sharp and vibrant visuals. One of the standout features of the Priv is its slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a nod to BlackBerry’s legacy of providing physical keyboards for efficient typing.
The device is rumored to come with 3GB of RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and performance. There are conflicting reports about the processor, with some sources suggesting it will be powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 808, while others believe it will feature an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. Both processors are known for their robust performance, so either option would be a solid choice for the Priv.
Camera and Additional Features
Other rumored specifications on the device include a 5-megapixel front camera, which should be more than adequate for selfies and video calls. The rear camera is expected to be an 18-megapixel shooter, likely equipped with advanced features such as optical image stabilization and phase detection autofocus to ensure high-quality photos and videos.
As yet there are no details on what version of Android the handset will come with, although we suspect it will be Android Lollipop. Given the timing of its release, there is also a possibility that it could come with Android Marshmallow, which would offer users the latest features and improvements from Google.
In addition to its hardware, the Priv is expected to come with a suite of BlackBerry’s proprietary software, including enhanced security features. BlackBerry has always been known for its focus on security, and it is likely that the Priv will continue this tradition, making it an attractive option for business users and those concerned about privacy.
The inclusion of a physical keyboard, combined with the versatility of the Android operating system, could make the Priv a unique and compelling option in the crowded smartphone market. It will be interesting to see how BlackBerry’s first foray into Android is received by consumers and whether it can help the company regain some of its lost market share.
As soon as we get some more details, we will let you guys know.
