Battlefield 3 players wanting a few more maps to enjoy will be pleased to know that next week EA and Dice are releasing their highly anticipated new DLC ‘Back to Karkand’.
The new Back to Karkand will include four maps from previous Battlefield games, all recreated in Battlefield 3’s new Frostbite 2.0 game engine. The maps included are Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula. These maps have been fan favorites in previous Battlefield titles, and their return in Battlefield 3 promises to bring a nostalgic yet refreshed experience to the players. The new DLC will be free if you purchased the Battlefield 3 limited edition version at launch, otherwise, it will cost you an extra $15 to enjoy. Enhanced Gameplay and Features
Back to Karkand is not just about the maps; it also brings new vehicles, weapons, and assignments to the game. Players will have access to classic Battlefield vehicles such as the STOVL fighter jet, desert buggy, and an APC. These vehicles are designed to enhance the tactical gameplay and provide more options for players to dominate the battlefield. Additionally, the DLC introduces ten new weapons that can be used in both the Back to Karkand maps and the original Battlefield 3 maps. These weapons include the FAMAS, L85A2, and the Type 88 LMG, among others.
The new assignments system adds another layer of depth to the game. Players can complete specific tasks to unlock new weapons and gear, providing a sense of progression and achievement. This system encourages players to try different playstyles and strategies, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging.
Release Dates and Availability
Back to Karkand will be arriving on December 6th for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. But unfortunately for PC gamers, their DLC will not be arriving until December 13th. This staggered release has been a point of contention among the community, but EA and Dice have assured players that the wait will be worth it. The extra time allows for additional testing and optimization to ensure a smooth experience on all platforms.
The anticipation for Back to Karkand is high, and for good reason. The combination of classic maps, new vehicles, weapons, and assignments promises to deliver a comprehensive and exciting expansion to Battlefield 3. Whether you are a veteran player looking to relive the glory days of previous Battlefield titles or a newcomer eager to experience some of the best maps in the series, Back to Karkand has something for everyone.
