A new style of water-based device has been born called the Flyboard, which incorporates a pair of water jet-powered boots to propel its rider through the air and water. In a similar way to the water-powered jetpack which we featured here on Geeky Gadgets earlier this year.
The new Flyboard water jet boots design seems to provide the users with more flexible movement than the Jetpack device. Allowing the wearer to dive and then emerge from the water in spectacular style. Watch the video after the jump to see the Flyboard water jet boots in action.
How the Flyboard Works
The Flyboard system uses a jet ski for propulsion and can be fitted to any jet ski with over a hundred horsepower. It’s also equipped with water jets that fit to your arms, enabling you to get more control when cornering and diving. The water jets on the boots and the hand-held stabilizers work in tandem to provide a unique and exhilarating experience. The force of the water jets can lift the rider up to 30 feet in the air or allow them to dive headfirst through the water like a dolphin.
The Flyboard was designed and built by Franky Zapata, from Marseille, and is now available to purchase for $6,600. This innovative device has opened up new possibilities for water sports enthusiasts, offering a blend of excitement and physical challenge. The Flyboard has quickly gained popularity, with many water sports centers around the world offering Flyboard rentals and lessons.
Applications and Popularity
Since its introduction, the Flyboard has been featured in numerous water sports competitions and exhibitions. Professional Flyboarders have developed a range of tricks and stunts, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with this device. The Flyboard has also been used in various entertainment shows, adding a spectacular element to performances.
The versatility of the Flyboard makes it suitable for a wide range of users, from beginners to advanced water sports enthusiasts. Beginners can start with basic maneuvers, such as hovering above the water and gentle dives, while more experienced users can perform flips, spins, and other acrobatic feats. The learning curve is relatively short, with most users able to get the hang of basic controls within a few sessions.
The Flyboard’s popularity has also led to the development of related products and accessories. For example, the Hoverboard by ZR, another invention by Franky Zapata, uses similar technology to allow riders to glide above the water on a board. These innovations continue to expand the possibilities for water-based recreation and adventure.
