It looks like there may be a new range of Google TV set top boxes being launched in the not too distant future, and it looks like they will be based on an ARM platform.
According to reports ARM and Google are currently working on a new range of set top boxes for Google TV, and this could end up with cheaper Google TV devices coming to market, which might help the platform.
Logitech’s Revue box is based on Intel’s CE4100 media chipset and currently retails for $299, which is quite expensive when you compare it to the $99 for the Apple TV.
It isn’t clear how much the ARM based Google TV set top boxes will retail for, but we suspect they will probably be considerably cheaper than the Intel based ones and may end up retailing somewhere between $100 and $200.
It will be interesting to see what sort of specifications are included in the ARM based Google TV set top boxes, whether they will end up doing full HD in 1080p remains to be seen or we could see them launching with support for HD in 720p.
As soon as we get some more information on the new range of ARM based Google TV set top boxes we will let you guys know.
