Archos has launched a new range of Internet Media Tablets, the Archos 5, 5G, and 7.
The new Archos 5, Archos 7 sixth generation internet media tablets offer storage capacities up to 320GB with high-resolution screens and just about every codec you’ll ever need, with plugins to cover the others.
Enhanced Connectivity and Versatility
The Archos 5G adds in that 3.5 HSDPA data providing true on-the-go surfing, making it an excellent choice for users who need constant internet access without relying solely on WiFi. All three players sport WiFi as standard, ensuring that users can connect to the internet wherever there is a wireless network available.
Sizes start off at 30GB for the Archos 5G, which runs an 800 x 480 4.8-inch touchscreen. The Archos 5 bumps that up to 60-250GB, while the Archos 7 offers even more storage with options of 160GB and 320GB. The Archos 7 features a 7-inch touchscreen that, while larger, matches the 5 series’ resolution exactly. This makes the Archos 7 ideal for users who prefer a larger display for media consumption, even though the resolution remains the same.
Recording Capabilities and Accessories
All three players can record VGA video through an optional DVR Station dock or the DVR snap-on accessory. This feature is particularly useful for users who want to record TV shows or other video content directly onto their device. Archos will have plenty of other accessories in the offing as well, including various docks, cases, and possibly even additional plugins to enhance functionality.
As for player design, Archos has made considerable strides in thinness, with the Archos 7 at 0.63-inches thick, and the Archos 5 as slim as 0.5-inches, depending on drive size. This makes these devices not only powerful but also highly portable, fitting easily into bags and even some pockets.
The Archos tablets are designed to be multimedia powerhouses, capable of handling a wide range of audio and video formats. This makes them ideal for users who have diverse media libraries. The inclusion of plugins to cover additional codecs ensures that users will rarely encounter a file they can’t play.
There is no word on pricing or availability as yet, but given the features and capabilities of these devices, they are likely to be competitive in the market. The Archos 5, 5G, and 7 are set to be strong contenders in the internet media tablet space, offering a blend of storage, connectivity, and multimedia capabilities that few other devices can match.
