The new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max launch tomorrow, and anticipation is at an all-time high. With the release just around the corner, we now have some benchmarks on the handsets, and it looks like both devices are nothing short of impressive.
The team at Tom’s Guide has obtained the Geekbench scores for both handsets. The iPhone XS scored an impressive 11,420, while the iPhone XS Max slightly edged it out with a score of 11,515. These scores indicate that both devices are more powerful than their predecessor, the iPhone X, and have also posted better benchmarks than other flagship handsets like the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Take a look at the chart below for a detailed comparison.
Performance and Specifications
The iPhone XS and XS Max are powered by Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chip, which is the first 7-nanometer chip in a smartphone. This chip includes a 6-core CPU, a 4-core GPU, and an 8-core Neural Engine, making it capable of performing 5 trillion operations per second. This translates to faster app launches, smoother graphics, and more efficient multitasking.
In addition to the powerful A12 Bionic chip, both models come with 4GB of RAM, which is a significant upgrade from the 3GB found in the iPhone X. This extra RAM helps in handling more intensive tasks and improves overall performance. The iPhone XS features a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display, while the XS Max boasts a larger 6.5-inch display, making it the largest iPhone display to date.
Camera and Battery Life
Both the iPhone XS and XS Max come equipped with a dual-camera system on the back, featuring a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. These cameras offer improved low-light performance, better color accuracy, and advanced features like Smart HDR, which combines multiple shots into one perfect photo. The front-facing TrueDepth camera also sees improvements, making Face ID faster and more reliable.
Battery life is another area where these new iPhones shine. The iPhone XS offers up to 20 hours of talk time, while the XS Max provides up to 25 hours. Both models support fast charging and wireless charging, making it easier to keep your device powered throughout the day.
Software and Additional Features
Running on iOS 12, the iPhone XS and XS Max come with a host of new features and improvements. iOS 12 introduces Group FaceTime, allowing you to video chat with up to 32 people simultaneously. It also includes Screen Time, a feature that helps you monitor and manage your device usage, and Memoji, which lets you create personalized Animoji that look just like you.
Both models are also water and dust resistant, with an IP68 rating, meaning they can withstand being submerged in up to 2 meters of water for 30 minutes. This makes them more durable and better suited for various environments.
