Apple announced its plans to open a $950 million Irish data center about 18 months ago and now it has finally received approval for its new project.
It took Apple some time to get approval for its new data center as there were some concerns and issues with the plans.
Apple were asked by An Bord Pleanala, the planning body dealing with the plans, to address some concerns relating to their plans.
A number of third party appeals were lodged with An Bord Pleanála against the decision of Galway County Council to grant planning permission for the development. The Board’s decision is to grant permission for the proposed development with revised conditions.
A separate application from Apple Distribution Limited was also lodged on 12th February, 2016 to allow for a 220kV electrical substation and a number of towers. This case was also considered by the Board on 10th August, 2016. The Board’s decision is to approve the proposed development.
Apple now has to agree to the changes to its plans for the project to move forward.
