We have already seen a number of waterproof tests on the Apple Watch, the latest one is from DC Rainmaker and this is the most extensive test on the device to date.
The Apple Watch wast tested in a waterproof test chamber, these are normally used to test dive watches and other normal watches for water proofing, have a look at the video below to see how the Watch did.
As we can see from the video, the Apple watch was tested to a depth of 140ft or 40m and it survived, this is pretty impressive, considering Apple only advertises the device splash and water resistant, but not waterproof, you can see Apple’s exact description from their website below.
Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529.
From the video it would appear that Apple’s smartwatch is considerably more waterproof than Apple advertises, although if you do use the device whilst swimming, and anything happens to it, you obviously wont be covered by their warranty.
