In December, Beyonce released her new album on iTunes, there was no publicity or press release about her new album, it was just released on iTunes without any announcement.
The album ended up being the fastest ever selling album on iTunes, Apple scored the exclusive for the release of Beyonce’s latest album and it was only available on iTunes at launch.
It looks like Apple is looking for more of the same, as according to a recent report, Apple is in talks with various record labels to score more exclusive deals like they did with the Beyonce album.
According to a recent report by the LA Times, Apple is pushing various record labels to give them more exclusive deals, in an attempt to draw more fans to iTunes.
What Apple are looking for from the record labels is an exclusive period of time for new albums, which would mean that an artists new album would only be available to purchase on iTunes at launch, and you would have to wait a few weeks to get that particular album from other sources.
Whether the record labels will agree to this sort of deal remains to be seen, but the sucess of the Beyonce album could possibly influence the companies to use iTunes to launch certain albums.
