As well as the new iOS 11 beta 2, Apple has also released a second beta of macOS High Sierra to developers.
The macOS High Sierra software update will bring a wide range of new features to Apple’s Mac range of computers.
New Features in macOS High Sierra
The update brings the new Apple Files System (APFS) that is found on iOS and it also brings a range of other new features to the Mac. APFS is designed to make common operations such as copying files and directories instantaneous, and it also improves data integrity and security. This is particularly beneficial for users who handle large files or require robust data protection.
Another significant feature is the enhanced graphics capabilities with Metal 2, Apple’s updated graphics API. Metal 2 offers better performance and efficiency, enabling developers to create more visually intensive applications and games. It also supports machine learning, virtual reality, and external GPUs, making it a versatile tool for developers and creatives alike.
Safari, Apple’s web browser, also sees improvements in macOS High Sierra. It now includes features like Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which uses machine learning to block tracking data from advertisers. Additionally, Safari now offers autoplay blocking, preventing videos from automatically playing on websites, which can be a significant annoyance for users.
Enhanced Multimedia and Productivity Tools
Photos app in macOS High Sierra has been revamped with new editing tools and improved organization features. Users can now access more advanced editing options such as curves and selective color, making it easier to fine-tune images without needing third-party software. The app also introduces new organizational tools like a persistent sidebar and better filtering options, helping users manage their photo libraries more efficiently.
The update also brings improvements to the Mail app, including a new feature called Top Hits, which helps users find the most relevant emails faster. Additionally, macOS High Sierra introduces support for HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding), which allows for better video compression without sacrificing quality. This is particularly useful for users who work with 4K video content, as it reduces file sizes and saves storage space.

Release Date and Availability
As yet we do not have a release date for macOS High Sierra, all we know is that it will land some time this fall, so we suspect it will be released in either September or October. Historically, Apple tends to release major software updates alongside new hardware announcements, so it is likely that macOS High Sierra will be available around the same time as the new iPhone models.
For developers, the beta version provides an opportunity to test their applications and ensure compatibility with the new operating system. It also allows them to take advantage of the new features and APIs introduced in macOS High Sierra, ensuring that their apps are optimized for the latest Mac hardware and software.
As soon as we get some more details about the release date, we will let you guys know. In the meantime, developers can continue to explore the new features and provide feedback to Apple to help refine the final release.
