We have heard rumors before about Apple working on their own components for future iPhones, according to a recent report they are working on new microLED displays for future devices.
The news comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who has revealed that Apple are developing their own microLED displays for the iPhone and the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch will apparently be the first device to use the technology.
Once Apple have developed the displays for the Apple Watch the company will then apparently be using the displays for the iPhone and other devices. Apple is developing these new displays at a manufacturing facility nears its headquarters in Claifornia.
The MicroLED displays are more difficult to produce that the OLED displays used in today’s devices. Apple used their first OLED display in last years iPhone X, the company is expected to launch two OLED display iPhones this year and one LCD iPhone.
It could be a few years before we see MicroLED displays in Apple’s iPhones, although we are expected to see the displays in the Apple Watch sooner than that. If Apple gets these new displays right then it could set itself and its devices apart from the competition.
