Yesterday Apple released a minor update for their mobile OS, Apple iOS 7.1, the next major update to iOS is expected to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 6 in September, Apple iOS 8.
According to a recent report, one of the major new features in Apple iOS 8 will be an updated version of Apple Maps, as Apple looks to take on Google Maps.
When Apple Maps first launched it came under quite a bit of criticism, and whilst Apple have improved the app, it still has some way to go to compete with Google Maps.
Apple Maps in Apple iOS 8 will feature major changes under the hood of the app, we saw a new look for the app launched last year.
Apple are looking to improve data within the Apple Maps application, and they are also looking to add transit support with the new version of Maps.
In Apple iOS 8, Apple will provide transit directions for major cities within the US, for trains, subways, bus and also directions to major airports.
This service is apparently being worked on at the moment and Apple are expected to have support for the majority of major cities in the US at launch, and may also expand to other countries at the same time.
We are looking forward to seeing what the next version of Apple Maps is like, whether Apple will be able to improve the application significantly to take on Google Maps remains to be seen.
