Android has a larger market share compared to iOS, but the case may be a little different when it comes to revenue generated from the app store.
According to a new report, Android surpasses iOS when it comes to app downloads, but that’s not the case when it comes to revenue generated from the sales of the apps. iOS developers still made more money than Android developers.
The report from AppAnnie suggests that Google Play Store app downloads increased by 60 percent, increasing the app downloads to 150 million. On the other hand, Apple Store has seen a 45 percent rise, bring the number of app downloads close to 100 million. The rise in the app downloads from Google Play Store is mainly due to the popularity of the Android OS in emerging markets.
The case is not the same when it comes to app revenue. Android developers may have a higher number of downloads — nearly 50 million more — but iOS app developers are more happy when it comes to money. iOS developers have made 80 percent more revenue compared to the Google Play Store. The report suggests iOS revenue saw a sharp increase of 45 percent, totalling it to over $100 million. As for Google Play Store, the growth is around 30 percent with a revenue of around $60 million.
The top five countries in terms of revenue for the Google Play Store includes Japan, the United States, South Korea, Germany, and Taiwan.
