Last month, Sony updated product pages of some of its devices, mentioning that Android 4.4 KitKat will roll out for them in May.
It seems the Japanese OEM kept its promise, and announced that Android 4.4.2 KitKat is rolling out for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Xperia Tablet Z.
Although Sony didn’t provide clear details about the roll out, it did mention on its blog that its rolling out the update starting today in select markets, with others to follow in the coming weeks. We’re still not sure which regions are included in the list, but we’ll definitely find out more about it in the coming days.
As for Android 4.4 KitKat, Sony says it brings improved performance & user interface (UI) optimisation — something we already know including update status bar icons, improved messaging capabilities and more.
The company also mentioned the status bar and quick settings have been revamped, and are more customizable now so that you can see the notifications you want to see. Additionally, they also mentioned about the PlayStation 4 saying, “If you’ve got a Sony PlayStation 4, you might recognize our new user interface – we’ve added the same sleek launch animation and live wallpaper across the lock and home screens.”
The new update also brings updated native Sony apps such as messaging, email, stamina mode and smart social camera, as well as the Walkman.
Let us know if you’re getting the update on any above mentioned devices. Sony also said Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 will get the taste of the Android 4.4 KitKat in July.
