Amazon has launched a new version of their popular Kindle eBook reader, which Amazon call the ‘Kindle with Special Offers’, and this new version is $25 cheaper than the existing Kindle and retails for $114.
Amazon will display adverts on the Kindle, where the screen saver normally is, and it will feature a range of advertisements and ‘deals; at the bottom of the home screen.
The adverts will only be shown on the home screen bar and the screen saver, users of the Kindle will not see the adverts anywhere else, and they will be ablt to click on the adverts at take advantage of whatever deals are being advertised.
“We’re working hard to make sure that anyone who wants a Kindle can afford one,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. “Kindle with Special Offers is the same #1 bestselling Kindle – and it’s only $114. Kindle is the best deal in consumer electronics anywhere in the world.”
It will be interesting to see if this ‘Special Offer’ version of the Kindle becomes popular or if people will pay the extra $25 not to have the adverts.
