Amazon announced their new Kindle Fire HD tablets last month, the 7-inch one with WiFi only will be available this month, and the 8.9-inch model, which comes with WiFi and 4G, will launch next month.
Now it would appear that the 8.9 Inch Kindle Fire HD is on target to launch next month as Amazon has now received approval for the device from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Normally companies get FCC approval for a device before it is announced. It isn’t clear why Amazon decided to announce the device before they received the necessary regulatory approval.
The 8.9 Inch Kindle Fire HD is available to pre-order from Amazon and it will go on sale in the US on the 20th of November, and come with a 4G LTE connection as well as WiFi.
Features and Specifications
The Kindle Fire HD series is designed to offer a high-quality media consumption experience. The 8.9-inch model boasts a stunning 1920×1200 resolution display, which provides sharp and vibrant visuals, making it perfect for watching movies, reading eBooks, and browsing the web. The device is powered by a dual-core OMAP 4470 processor, which ensures smooth performance for most tasks. Additionally, it comes with Dolby Audio dual-driver stereo speakers, enhancing the audio experience for users.
One of the standout features of the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD is its 4G LTE connectivity. This allows users to stay connected to the internet even when they are on the go, without relying solely on WiFi networks. Amazon has partnered with AT&T to offer a data plan that includes 250MB of data per month for a year, 20GB of additional Cloud Drive storage, and a $10 Amazon Appstore credit, all for a one-time payment of $49.99.
Comparison with Other Tablets
When compared to other tablets in the market, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch model stands out due to its competitive pricing and robust feature set. For instance, Apple’s iPad, which is one of the leading tablets, offers a similar display quality but comes at a higher price point. The inclusion of 4G LTE in the Kindle Fire HD also gives it an edge over many other Android tablets that only offer WiFi connectivity.
Moreover, Amazon’s ecosystem provides a seamless experience for users who are already invested in Amazon services. With access to a vast library of eBooks, movies, TV shows, and music, the Kindle Fire HD becomes more than just a tablet; it becomes a gateway to a world of entertainment. The integration with Amazon Prime further enhances the value proposition, offering free streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows, as well as access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.
In terms of storage, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch model comes in two variants: 16GB and 32GB. While this may seem limited compared to some other tablets that offer up to 128GB, Amazon’s Cloud Drive provides additional storage options for users who need more space for their content.
The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD is a compelling option for anyone looking for a high-quality tablet with excellent media capabilities and the added benefit of 4G LTE connectivity. With its competitive pricing, robust feature set, and seamless integration with Amazon’s ecosystem, it is poised to be a strong contender in the tablet market. Whether you are a casual user or a media enthusiast, the Kindle Fire HD offers something for everyone.
