If you haven’t yet tried the Amazon Dash button which allows you to purchase certain products directly from the Amazon online store by the simple press of a button. They are definitely worth positioning around your home for those products which need to be purchased on a regular basis and may not need to wait for a monthly or weekly shop.
One inventive hacker has now taken the Amazon Dash and modified it using a Raspberry Pi into a silent doorbell which is capable of providing a notification on your computer when anyone arrives at your door.
All code and instructions are available via Github for you to create your very own Amazon Dash Raspberry Pi power doorbell.
Constantly looking out the window so that you can intercept visitors before they ring the doorbell? Tired of the dogs and baby going crazy anytime it rings? Don’t want to spend a fortune on a “smart” solution?
Making a silent doorbell is as easy as hacking a $5 Amazon Dash Button! The only other thing you need is a computer that’s always at home – like, say, that Raspberry Pi you’ve got sitting around. Get text notifications anytime someone pushes your new door bell and keep the whole house happy. (It’s even cooler to get notifications if you have a smartwatch!)
