The Amazon App Store may not have as many apps as the likes of Apple or Google, but Amazon’s CEO has just announced that the company’s app store has hit a new milestone, the Amazon App Store now has more than 200,000 apps.
The news was announced by Jeff Bezos in a letter to Amazon Investors, you can see the section from the letter below, which confirms the company’s latest milestone.
The Amazon Appstore now serves customers in almost 200 countries. Selection has grown to include over 200,000 apps and games from top developers around the globe – nearly tripling in size over the past year. We introduced Amazon Coins, a virtual currency that saves customers up to 10% on app and in-app purchases. Our Whispersync for Games technology lets you start a game on one device and continue it on another without losing your progress.
Amazon launched their App Store back in March of 2011, there were just 3,800 applications available at launch, and they hit 100,000 apps in August of last year.
So in the last 8 months, Amazon has manged to double the amount of apps that are available in their app store, although it will take Amazon some time to catch up with Google and Apple.
