Owners of the Basis Peak smartwatch have this week requested to send back to its manufacturers after the Intel-acquired company has been unable to tweak the smartwatches operating system to significantly cut down the potential for the device to overheat and possibly burn wearers.
The issue was first discovered back in June and since then the smartwatches developers have been trying to made alterations to the on-board software after a number of users reported that the smartwatches “caused discomfort, blistering or burns” during use.
Josh Walden, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s New Technology Group explained :
We are asking that you return your Basis Peak watch and authorized accessories for a full refund at your earliest convenience. This was a tough decision, but your safety is our top priority. We had hoped to update the software on your watch to address the problem. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we aren’t able to develop such a solution without completely compromising the user experience.
