If you haven’t bought a Kindle as yet and don’t mind a few adverts popping up on your screen, then you might be pleased to know that Amazon has started shipping its new advertising-supported Kindle earlier than expected.
Amazon calls their new Kindle the ‘Kindle with Special Offers’, and the new version is $25 cheaper than the existing latest generation WiFi-only Kindle and retails for $114. Adverts will only be shown on the bottom of the home screen and during the screen saver and nowhere else, says Amazon.

“We’re working hard to make sure that anyone who wants a Kindle can afford one,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. “Kindle with Special Offers is the same #1 bestselling Kindle – and it’s only $114. Kindle is the best deal in consumer electronics anywhere in the world.”
Unfortunately, the Kindle with Special Offers is currently only available in the US at the moment.
Features and Benefits of the Kindle with Special Offers
The Kindle with Special Offers is designed to provide the same high-quality reading experience as the standard Kindle but at a more affordable price point. The device features a 6-inch E Ink display that mimics the appearance of real paper, making it easy on the eyes even during extended reading sessions. The Kindle is lightweight and portable, making it perfect for reading on the go.
One of the standout features of the Kindle with Special Offers is its long battery life. A single charge can last up to a month, depending on usage, which means you can enjoy your favorite books without constantly worrying about recharging. Additionally, the Kindle supports a wide range of file formats, including PDF, MOBI, and TXT, giving you the flexibility to read various types of documents.
Adverts and User Experience
While the inclusion of adverts might be a concern for some users, Amazon has taken steps to ensure that the ads are as unobtrusive as possible. The adverts are limited to the bottom of the home screen and the screensaver, meaning they won’t interrupt your reading experience. In fact, some users might find the adverts beneficial, as they often include special offers and discounts on Amazon products and services.
For example, you might see adverts for discounted eBooks, which can help you save money on your reading material. Additionally, Amazon has introduced a feature called “AdMash,” which allows users to vote on the adverts they prefer to see. This level of customization ensures that the adverts are more relevant and less intrusive.
The Kindle with Special Offers also comes with all the standard Kindle features, such as adjustable font sizes, built-in dictionaries, and access to Amazon’s vast library of eBooks. You can also take advantage of Amazon’s Whispersync technology, which syncs your reading progress across all your devices, allowing you to pick up right where you left off, whether you’re reading on your Kindle, smartphone, or tablet.
The Kindle with Special Offers is an excellent option for budget-conscious readers who don’t mind a few adverts in exchange for a lower price. With its high-quality display, long battery life, and access to a vast library of eBooks, it offers great value for money. While it is currently only available in the US, it is expected that Amazon will expand its availability to other regions in the future.
