Not too long ago, we heard a rumor that HTC will soon start implementing ads in BlinkFeed, and it turns out the rumor was correct.
HTC has officially confirmed that ads are coming to BlinkFeed in certain regions, including U.S., U.K., Germany, Taiwan and China. However, users who are not interested in seeing the promotion can opt out of it.
Today we’re beginning to roll out an update to our BlinkFeed app that will test the displaying of a limited number of promotions to users in a limited number of markets, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, Taiwan, and China. If you’re a BlinkFeed user located in one of the markets named above, you’ll begin to see a limited number of native, relevant promotions of sponsored apps from AdNetworks partners such as Yahoo, Twitter, and Appia, as well as HTC auto promotions for new accessories or devices.
The ads will appear just like any other content in BlinkFeed with proper formatting so it will not affect the user experience at all.
The ads may turn out to be a good source of revenue for the company who are struggling in the market. The Taiwanese company reported declining revenues and the HTC One M9 apparently has poor sales compared to its competitors.
