Feature: The Pencil iPhone Stand
I wanted to watch a video on my iPhone yesterday, whilst doing some work on my PC, but not matter what I tried to prop the iPhone up I couldn’t get it at the right angle to watch the video.
Taking inspiration from the well know iPhone Bulldog clip stand but not having any bulldog clips to hand. I fashioned together a landscape iPhone stand using 4 pencils and elastic bands.
The 4 pencil stand works great for the 2G iPhone but if you have a 3G iPhone you may need to use 2 pencils for the horizontal support due to the extra thickness, making a total of 5 pencils for the 3G iPhone (as pictured).
Its really simple to construct and should only take a few minutes and is completely collapsible
If you have a 3G phone first strap two pencils together with one elastic band at either end to make the horizontal phone support. Then make a triangle using two more pencils. Then add the final pencil as the back support. You can adjust the stability and support given by tightening the top elastic band tension.
If you are using it on a slippery desk surface and have a pencil with an eraser on it use the eraser end on the desk to give added support and stop the leg from slipping. That’s it have fun…

Are you sure its a “4″ pencil stand?
January 21st, 2009 at 6:14 pm
Hi Adam
I have updated the post to make it a bit clearer.
If you making one for the 2G iPhone, it can be done with 4 pencils, but you really need 5 for the 3G iPhone.
Thanks for pointing that out

If you are making one for the 2G iPhone you need 4, for the 3G iPhone you need 5.
Cheers
