Russia’s predominant search engine Yandex has this week suggested the prices of its cloud storage service to provide more competition against the likes of Dropbox and Google Drive.
Yandex have now adjusted their cloud storage prices to reflect the following: 10GB for $1 per month or $10 per year, 100GB for $5 or $50 a year and 1TB for $30 or $300 a year.
Yandex.Disk: A Competitive Edge in Cloud Storage
Yandex also offers a free 20GB worth of cloud storage, which is a generous amount compared to some competitors. The company says that Yandex.Disk is available internationally, with apps for Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, and Windows Phone as well as a browser-based interface. This wide range of compatibility ensures that users can access their files from virtually any device, making it a versatile option for both personal and professional use.
After launching back in April 2012, Yandex explains that its cloud storage offering now has 12 million unique users per month. While the majority of these users are based in Russia and the CIS countries, a notable 6.5-7% come from other parts of the world. This international reach demonstrates Yandex’s growing influence in the global market.
Features and Benefits of Yandex.Disk
One of the standout features of Yandex.Disk is its seamless integration with other Yandex services. For instance, users can easily save email attachments from Yandex.Mail directly to their Yandex.Disk, streamlining the process of managing files. Additionally, Yandex.Disk supports automatic photo and video uploads from mobile devices, ensuring that users’ memories are safely backed up without manual intervention.
Security is another critical aspect where Yandex.Disk excels. The service employs robust encryption methods to protect user data, both during transfer and while stored on their servers. This commitment to security is crucial in an era where data breaches are increasingly common.
Moreover, Yandex.Disk offers collaborative features that make it an attractive option for teams and businesses. Users can share files and folders with specific individuals or generate public links for broader access. This functionality is particularly useful for project collaboration, allowing multiple users to work on the same files simultaneously.
