The design team at Time 4 Machine based in Kyiv ,Ukraine, has created a fantastic range of wooden kits offering a variety of different designs from a clockwork pencil sharpener to fully functional remote control vehicles. The five different kits available have been meticulously designed and offer a range of detailed mechanical constructions made from precision CNC machined plywood.
The ingeniously thought out range of detailed wooden model kits aptly named the Woodcraft Marvels and each one has been enhanced in one way or another using electronics, LED lighting and motors in a variety of different ways. All five wooden construction kits are now available to purchase via Kickstarter with limited time pricing available to early bird backers. The two wooden vehicles kits come complete with wood-texture controllers and everything you need to start racing including powerful motors that allow you to drift, steer and power on different surfaces.
Denis Okhrimenko, CEO of Time for Machine says about the line-up:
“The design process for these models was all about re-imagining how wooden DIY kits work in general. We have created something truly unique. We are essentially giving people the power to easily construct something that usually comes ready-made. Some models have on/off switches inside the cockpit for certain elements (like the LED lighting) as if they were real vehicles. We included magnetic shock absorbers and we encased the remote control in wood too. These are really unusual features. You get to assemble a really cool and complex mechanism from simpler parts, using pliers and other tools. YOU are the creator here, and the end result is truly awesome.”
Each kit is provided in a presentation box with full assembly instructions and a range of different bundles are also available allowing you to purchase more than one kit at a time saving even more money. The Clockwork Sharpener
Once built, the electronically powered clockwork pencil sharpener sharpens your pencils in style and with almost hypnotic visuals. It contains a complicated system of cogs and wheels that rotate within the external housing. Thanks to the cutouts on the outer casing the inner mechanism can be seen in motion as your pencil is sharpened .
The designers have also included a small integrated pencil rack situated at the rear allowing you to store five of your favourite sketching pencils. The Clockwork Sharpener is available from $89 and is available with a 35% discount to early bird Kickstarter backers. Sandstorm Cruiser
The Sandstorm Cruiser is the company’s flagship kit and is priced at $189 again offering a 35% discount for Kickstarter backers and free worldwide delivery included in the price.The off-road inspired buggy offers plenty of speed and power thanks to its “wheel whirling” mechanism and magnetic shock absorbers that enables the buggies frame to tilt while in motion, providing extra flexibility in the frame when entering high-speed manoeuvres. LED lights are also included for the headlights and are integrated in the the ox-head grill and the rear spoiler.
Rapid Trike
The lightweight trike has been designed to provide an agile and versatile motor-powered wooden vehicle and includes a unique mechanism that allows the rear wheels to rotate on their axis, allowing for movement against side facing surfaces and obstacles. The Rapid Trike also includes unique mechanical shock absorbers to allow the vehicle to ride over uneven ground.
The Rapid Trike is priced at $169 also offering a 35% saving off the recommended retail price as well as free worldwide delivery to Kickstarter backers. The precision wooden kit also includes LED lighting for added effect and illumination in those darker racing conditions.
Reactor of Memories
The Reactor of Memories wooden kit has been created to provide modellers with design representing a unique piece of Ukrainian history, as well as raising awareness of the Chernobyl events and the heroism of the first responders. The design team explain a little more about the inspiration behind the Reactor of Memories kit. “We wanted to unite this memory with our passion for woodwork models and share our heritage with you in a beautifully designed electronic collector’s piece”. The reactor kit includes small hidden storage compartments as well as an LED reactor core with rotating tower. The wooden Reactor of Memories kit is available from $79 with free delivery included.
Hero Dozer
The final wooden kit available via this Kickstarter campaign is the Hero Dozer offering another piece of historical memorabilia connected to the Ukrainian Chernobyl disaster that took place in 1986. It offers a near realistic design resembling the USSR first responder vehicles used during the Chernobyl crisis. The dozer and can be used as a stand-alone piece or accompanied with the Reactor of Memories kit.The Hero Dozer is available from $45 via Kickstarter with free delivery included in the special limited time pricing.
The company has considerable experience in producing DIY models: the team includes designers, engineers and inventors working with precision technologies. The company’s CEO was the founder of another start-up that went on to sign a distribution deal with Disney for their models, before he established a new and even more innovative model-kit company. The goal of Time for Machine is to push the boundaries of DIY design and bring beautiful creations to people worldwide. After two successful Kickstarter campaigns, this one is probably the most creative yet.
