One of the biggest downside to Wi-Fi networks in some homes or offices is that the wireless connection is often unable to be picked up in all areas. That leaves some areas unable to connect to the Internet or means you have to resort to power line networking. Western Digital has unveiled a new wireless range extender that offers an alternative for people needing better Wi-Fi range.
The device is called the WD My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender. It’s available now for $89.91 and supports all Wi-Fi certified routers and gateways using 802.11a to 802.11ac protocols. The device is designed specifically to support high-bandwidth services like streaming video, online gaming, or video chatting.
The device uses a 3 x 3 MIMO antenna, which is larger than the 2 x 2 antennae used on competing products. It has a front mounted Ethernet port and can be switched between 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz networks.
