During its Oculus Connect 6, Facebook has unveiled its new online virtual reality social experience in the form of Facebook Horizon allowing you to use the company’s virtual reality hardware to engage in a new social network. From the announcement video below Facebook Horizon seems to offer a next generation “Second Life” experience. “Welcome to Facebook Horizon, an ever-expanding VR world where you can explore, play, and create in extraordinary ways. At Horizon, you’re not just discovering a new world, you are part of what makes it great.”
The new Facebook Horizon VR social network is still under development, but Facebook has opened up registration allowing those interested to sign up for the Beta release of Facebook Horizon which is now available. “Sign up now to apply for access to our closed beta. Be among the first to explore and shape this world.”
To make room for the new virtual reality social network experience Facebook will be closing a few other experimental social networks in the form of Facebook Spaces and Oculus Rooms both of which will be closed next month on October 25th, 2019 to make room for Facebook Horizon.
