Volkswagen has announced its new electric car, the Volkswagen ID.3, and the basic version of the car, the ID.31, will retail for under €30,000.
The new Volkswagen ID.3 will be shown off at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, and the car will be offered with three different battery size options.
Battery Options and Range
The Volkswagen ID.3 will come with three battery options to cater to different needs and budgets. The smallest battery option offers a range of approximately 330 kilometers (205 miles) on a single charge, making it ideal for city driving and short commutes. The mid-range battery provides around 420 kilometers (261 miles), which is suitable for longer commutes and occasional road trips. The largest battery option boasts an impressive range of up to 550 kilometers (342 miles), making it perfect for long-distance travel and reducing the need for frequent charging stops.
The ID.3 is an all-rounder that is suitable for everyday use. It is compact, as such offering the maneuverability of a small car with the interior space of a mid-range vehicle. It combines exciting design with innovative technology and significant range,” outlines Silke Bagschik, Head of Sales and Marketing for the ID. family, on the evening before the IAA.
Design and Technology
The design of the Volkswagen ID.3 is both modern and functional. Its compact size ensures easy maneuverability in urban environments, while the spacious interior provides comfort for both the driver and passengers. The car features a minimalist dashboard with a digital cockpit, providing all necessary information at a glance. The ID.3 also includes advanced driver-assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking, enhancing both safety and convenience.
The ID.3 from Volkswagen opens a new era of climate-friendly mobility. This first model from the ID. series features carbon-neutrality, the impressive driving dynamics that are characteristic of electric cars, and full connectivity. Like all future ID. models, the ID.3 is based on the new modular electric drive matrix (MEB), which has been designed for an electric drive system without compromise.
Environmental Impact and Sustainability
One of the standout features of the Volkswagen ID.3 is its commitment to sustainability. The car is produced with a focus on reducing its environmental impact. Volkswagen has ensured that the ID.3 is carbon-neutral from production to delivery. This includes using renewable energy sources in the manufacturing process and offsetting unavoidable emissions through certified climate projects. The ID.3 also features recyclable materials in its construction, further emphasizing Volkswagen’s dedication to sustainability.
Connectivity and Infotainment
The Volkswagen ID.3 is equipped with state-of-the-art connectivity features. It supports over-the-air updates, ensuring that the car’s software remains up-to-date without the need for a visit to the dealership. The infotainment system includes a large touchscreen display with intuitive controls, offering seamless integration with smartphones through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the ID.3 comes with a voice control system, allowing drivers to operate various functions without taking their hands off the wheel.
Charging Infrastructure
Volkswagen is also investing in the development of a robust charging infrastructure to support the ID.3 and other electric vehicles. The company is part of the IONITY network, which aims to establish a network of high-power charging stations across Europe. These stations can charge the ID.3’s battery to 80% in just 30 minutes, making long-distance travel more convenient. Volkswagen is also working on expanding home charging solutions, offering wall boxes that can be installed in garages or driveways for easy overnight charging.
