After a very long wait, VideoLAN finally releases a major upgrade to popular media player VLC, its 2.0 version.
Dubbed as VLC 2.0 Twoflower, the upgrade features more supported video formats, including professional, HD, and 10bits codec; higher quality of subtitles and video filters; and more efficient Windows and Mac interfaces for maximum viewing satisfaction. The upgrade also fixes up to thousands of bugs present in its first version.
Apart from overall improvements in video, audio, and formats, plus upgrades specific to Mac and professional users, VideoLAN also highlighted Twoflower’s benefits for anime fans with linked segments and ordered chapter files support and better MKV (arguably the most common anime videos file extension) support.
For ultra-geeks and developers, libVLC, libVLCcore, and libcompat have all switched from GPL to LGPLv2.1+ and more examples are available like media player, photobooth, and mediainfo clones. VLC plugins have also been rewritten for better performance in top browsers.
Also present in Twoflower is an experimental support for newer media devices and BluRay Discs.
