The new HTC One M8 came with a handy feature dubbed as the Extreme Battery Saving Mode. At launch, the feature was not available for handsets in the US, but it was pushed to the Sprint model, and the ones in Canada recently.
If you’re rocking an unlocked or the developer version of the HTC One M8, you be glad to find out it is getting an update with the Extreme Power saving mode.
The update comes with a software version 1.54.1540.9 and is sized at 117.98MB. Along with the Extreme Power Saving mode, the update also introduces a bunch of camera and gallery enhancements for the HTC One M8.
Understanding Extreme Battery Saving Mode
Extreme Battery Saving Mode is a feature designed to significantly extend the battery life of your HTC One M8 by shutting down most of the phone’s functions and only keeping the essential ones active. This includes basic functionalities like phone calls, text messages, and essential apps. When activated, the screen brightness is reduced, background data is limited, and non-essential apps are disabled. This mode is particularly useful in situations where you need your phone to last as long as possible, such as during travel or emergencies.
For instance, if your battery is critically low and you are far from a charging point, enabling this mode can give you several more hours of standby time. Users have reported that even with just 10% battery remaining, the Extreme Battery Saving Mode can extend the phone’s usability by several hours, which can be a lifesaver in critical situations.
Additional Features in the Update
Besides the Extreme Battery Saving Mode, the update also brings several enhancements to the camera and gallery functionalities of the HTC One M8. These improvements include better image processing, faster camera performance, and new gallery features that make it easier to organize and share your photos. The camera enhancements are particularly noteworthy as they improve the overall photo quality, making the HTC One M8 even more competitive with other flagship smartphones.
The update is rolling out as we speak and should roll out in the coming days. If you didn’t receive it yet, you may want to wait for a few days or check manually by going to the Settings app. To manually check for the update, navigate to Settings > About > Software updates > Check now.
