There’s no available photographic evidence yet and testing is ongoing over at Sainsburys in Cromwell Road. If the experiments over there are positive though, then iPod dock enabled shopping carts will be a go throughout the UK. Want to try guessing what they’re called?
Seen above is a generic shopping cart. It’s a stand in for Sainsburys latest creation, of which little pictorial evidence exists at the moment. Being a shopping cart, it still has wheels and adequate space. Just add an iPad dock so shoppers can go about consuming media while running into shelves. Nah, kidding! That’s why they’re being field tested right?
The reason for modding the humble shopping cart seems to be ambitious: promoting the Sky Go service of Sky TV. What is Sky Go? It’s a media app that lets users consume programming like sports, news, etc. on an iPad.
Sainsburys commissioned Setwo Designs to reinvent the shopping cart of the future. Being an iPad dock on wheels, the new carts will have significant speaker oomph and have the potential to be a favorite among people who just want to power their iPads while ‘pretend’ shopping. That means lots of aimless shoppers with empty carts trolling aisles, fixated on their docked iPads, their purchasing power wasted.
Oh yes, there’s a good chance these iCarts will indeed be spreading across the UK soon. iCarts?
