The Eye Tribe was at CES this year showing off their eye-tracking sensor and a micro USB device that can equip any Android smartphone with eye-sensing capabilities. All you’d have to do is plug the infrared light source into your phone’s micro USB slot and you can start playing Fruit Ninja with your eyes just like in the video below.
The best part of Eye Tribe’s news is that they’re not seeking to sell their light sources individually. Their real goal is to get smartphone developers to start installing infrared light sources so that eye gaze technology can become mainstream.
You can currently buy a PC eye gaze sensor bar from The Eye Tribe for only $99.
Eye gaze technology isn’t the new user interface of the future, but it could come in useful for various applications. We’ve already seen how it can be used to pause a video when you look away from it and now how you can even use it to play games in an interesting way. If made mainstream, who knows where developers could take the feature?!
What would you like to see eye gaze technology used for? Feel free to comment below and tell us what you think about it.
