Earlier this week Valve took the warps off its new SteamOS Linux gaming based operating system that allows console owners to use to make their hardware more gaming friendly and transform it in to a Valve Steam box.
Now Valve has announced that they have been working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines or Valve Steam box devices to market during 2014, all of them running Valve’s new SteamOS.
So rather than being just one Valve Steam Box it seems that there are going to be a range of different consoles to suit a range of gaming requirements as Valve puts it “Entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all world”.
“While these products are still in development, we need your help. As always, we believe the best way to ensure that the right products are getting made is to let people try them out and then make changes as we go. We have designed a high-performance prototype that’s optimized for gaming, for the living room, and for Steam. Of course, it’s also completely upgradable and open.”-This year we’re shipping just 300 of these boxes to Steam users, free of charge, for testing. You can make yourself eligible to get one.”
