Well, more like Beta Test Weekends, but when you’re a Jedi-murdering agent of darkness, you tend to gloss over things like proper nomenclature. And if you’re a Jedi, you’re probably too busy getting murdered to notice anyway. You might have noticed we’re a bit partial to the Sith here at Geeky Gadgets.
The Beta Weekends are only open to “selected players” for now, but there’s one surefire way to join the ranks of that elite one and a half million strong group. It may seem suspiciously simple, as it involves an email address and not much else, but be on the lookout for spam filters, malfunctioning antiviruses, and other stuff that may mean you’ll be waiting to play it until Christmas, when it’s currently slated to release.
How to Join the Beta Weekends
To get a chance to participate in these exclusive Beta Weekends, you need to sign up on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic website. Make sure your email address is correctly entered and keep an eye on your inbox for an invitation. It’s also a good idea to check your spam folder regularly, as sometimes these important emails can get lost in the shuffle. Additionally, ensure that your antivirus software is not blocking any emails from the game’s developers, as this could delay your access to the Beta.
Once you receive your invitation, follow the instructions provided to download the game client and get started. The Beta Weekends are a fantastic opportunity to experience the game before its official release and provide valuable feedback to the developers.
What to Expect During the Beta Weekends
During the Beta Weekends, players will have the chance to explore various aspects of the game, including character creation, questing, and PvP combat. This is a great time to test out different classes and playstyles to see what suits you best. Whether you prefer the dark side as a Sith or the light side as a Jedi, there’s something for everyone in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The developers are particularly interested in feedback on game balance, server stability, and overall gameplay experience. Your input can help shape the final product, making it a better experience for everyone when the game officially launches.
Updated 22nd July 2011
One of our readers, Jonathan, has pointed out that the Beta has been going on for over a year, and that these Beta weekends will be more like mass invite weekends, a sort of try before you buy.
The game is slated for a ‘holiday season’ release, so it should be available before Christmas, and it is being tipped to launch around October.
Thanks, Jonathan, for the tip!
