Sony has pulled the wraps off a new technology that promises to make mobile phones that have articulation more robust and open the door to new designs. The technology replaces multiple wires with a single wire for power and data.
Phones that articulate like flip phones and sliders have many wires that run across the articulation points and can be damaged over time. The new technology replaces all those wires with a single copper wire that transmits power and data.
The single wire uses time division duplex and multiples for bi-directional transmission of data on the single wire. The technology can transfer data of all types at up to 940Mbps. The power consumption for the tech is 10-80mW in use and 0.3mW on stand-by.
