Recently, Google announced the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, which is expected to launch on a number of existing devices. Nexus devices along with the Google Play Edition will get the update in the coming months.
Sony also announced that a number of its premium Xperia Z handsets will received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the coming months.
The Japanese OEM announced that several Xperia devices, including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, will get the latest Android update. It will start with the Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition.
The major Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series will get the update in the beginning of 2015, followed by other devices mentioned above. It appears Sony wants to make sure it can update its devices in due time after they receive the software from Google.
There’s no exact release date, but the company mentioned they release more details about the update in the coming weeks. We’ll update you as soon as Sony starts rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop for its devices.
