If you’re a console gamer odds are you have played on the Sony PS2. The game console launched back in 2000 and has sold 150 million units since then. Sony Japan has announced that it will be no longer shipping the PS2 in Japan.
That means that after existing stocks run out, there will be no more new PS2 consoles. Presumably, the console will be phased out in other countries as well as existing supplies run out. The PS2 has been on sale for 12 years making it the biggest selling video game console ever.
I don’t expect the PS3 to have a life as long as the PS2 did. Sony is also already working on the next-generation game console, presumably called the PS4.
