Sony has released their earnings report for the last quarter, that is, the third quarter (from July-September). The company posted an operating loss of operating loss of 85.6 billion yen (about $765 million).
The company also revealed they sold 9.9 million Xperia smartphones in the last quarter, which is good, but not the best if they want to rise to the top. Compared to similar quarter an year ago, the company sold 10 million units so the difference isn’t very big.
Last quarter, the company posted a profit of almost $124 million, and this quarter isn’t as impressive as one may have expected. Most of the blame is on the Sony’s Mobile Communications which posted a massive loss of 176 billion yen ($1.6 billion).
Sony’s devices business which provides imaging sensors and components to other manufacturers posted a profit, including other segments of the company as well. It posted $2.3 billion in revenue and operating profit of $271 million, mainly due to the strong demand for improved cameras.
The company also reduced its prediction of the yearly smartphone sales from 43 to 41 million, but a little high from the number of units sold in 2013.
