We are were not expecting to hear much about iOS 12 until Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in June, but now it looks like we have some details on the next version of Apple’s mobile OS.
Previously we heard that Apple is leaving some features out of iOS 12 until next year, the company is looking to focus on quality with this new release.
According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Marc Gurman, Apples engineers will have more discretion on which features are delayed in the next version of their OS. Apple is apparently moving to a two year roadmap for both iOS and macOS.
This means that engineers will not have to rush out features to iOS if they are not one hundred percent ready, this should help cut down on bugs and also improve the overall quality of iOS.
“Instead of keeping engineers on a relentless annual schedule and cramming features into a single update, Apple will start focusing on the next two years of updates for its iPhone and iPad operating system, according to people familiar with the change. The company will continue to update its software annually, but internally engineers will have more discretion to push back features that aren’t as polished to the following year.”
Apple plans to released some big new features in iOS 12, these include Animoji for FaceTime, deeper Siri integration, an updated stocks app and more. We will have more information on everything that is coming in the next version of iOS closer to WWDC 2018.
