Clef Innovation, a new start-up is looking to disrupt the traditional umbrella market and offer an alternative to the mass produced, poor quality umbrellas currently on the market. By offering a handmade, high quality smart umbrella which is equipped with tracking technology and constructed from premium materials. The baobab.Brolly or the bbb.B Umbrella 2.0 as it is known, has this month launched via Kickstarter offering early bird backers a chance to own a quality umbrella constructed using the finest fabrics and waterproofing technology offering an environmentally friendly alternative to the flimsy, cheaply made umbrellas currently swamping the market.
Rather than mass-producing a low quality umbrella, the baobab.Brolly has been designed to last and is hand made at bbb.B by “umbrella craftsmen”. The complete manufacturing process is carried out at bbb.B and each Umbrella 2.0 is personalised with its very own unique serial number. “We have made it our mission to present you with the very last umbrella you’ll ever need” says Clef Innovation.
Not only does the quality craftsmanship separate this umbrella from many other low quality umbrellas currently on the market, but the development team has also equipped the Umbrella 2.0 with tracking technology built into its handle. To aid with tracking the bbb.B the umbrella comes with its own smartphone companion application, supporting both iOS and Android operating system’s. Once installed the tracking application connects to your smart bbb.B Umbrella 2.0 using Bluetooth connectivity and will notify you if you move more than 15 paces from your umbrella, alerting you should not forget to pick up your umbrella as you leave a restaurant, plane or coffee shop.
The bbb.B is available in a range of colours including Black, Green, Grey and Apricot and when not in use tightly wraps to provide an easy to carry fashion accessory complete with a hand loop and identity badge at the end of the handle. Offering added confidence when being carried wrapped or on those particularly windy days when more control is needed. The smart Umbrella 2.0 has a handle length of 15cm, a main umbrella measurement of 65cm when folded and the remaining is used for the umbrella tip. The total length is 91cm or 36 inches and the diameter when opened is 11 cm or 43 inches.
The bbb.B is also customisable and can be disassembled right down to the handle, removing the canopy and tip if required, allowing you to combine different colours to suit your preferences, fashions and style. Not only does the modular nature of the bbb.B allow you to customise it to suit different outfits, but it also provides an environmentally friendly way to replace parts rather than discarding the complete umbrella to landfill.
bbb.B Umbrellas are constructed using steel nickel frames and paired with an ultra-high density fabric to ensure you are prepared for the worst of weathers. Providing a rigid weather shield when required that will not easily break even in high winds. The Bluetooth technology embedded in the handle is powered by a DCR 123 battery that lasts more than three years or 1,905 days on a single charge. When flat the battery is easily replaced by simply unscrewing the bottom of the umbrella where the old battery can be slipped out and be replaced with a new fully charged battery for another three years of use.
Early bird backers can now pledge to be one of the first to own the new smart Baobab.Brolly Smart Umbrella 2.0 in either Black, Green, Grey or Apricot with pledges available from $99.
