Sky launched Sky Q back in March and now the company is releasing its first major software update for the platform.
The software update for Sky Q brings some new features to the platform, these include Auto Download Next Episode, Auto Play and Top Picks.
New Features in the Sky Q Update
Top Picks brings you more content from Sky’s On Demand library, this is something they have focused on with their new Sky Q system and it has worked well to showcase their massive library of content. This feature curates a selection of recommended shows and movies based on your viewing habits, making it easier to discover new content without endless scrolling. For instance, if you frequently watch crime dramas, Top Picks will highlight similar shows and movies that you might enjoy.
Auto Download Next Episode will automatically download the next episode in a box set, so if you are watching Episode 1 of a show, by the time you have finished, Episode 2 will be downloaded. This feature is particularly useful for binge-watchers who prefer to watch multiple episodes in one sitting without interruptions. Imagine you’re engrossed in a thrilling series like “Game of Thrones”; with Auto Download, you won’t have to wait for the next episode to buffer or download, ensuring a seamless viewing experience.
Auto Play is another new feature that will automatically start the next episode in a box set after 30 seconds, you can choose to watch it immediately or watch it later as well. This feature is designed to keep the momentum going, especially during cliffhangers. For example, if you’re watching a suspenseful series like “Breaking Bad,” Auto Play ensures that the next episode starts without you having to lift a finger, keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Additional Enhancements and User Experience
There are also a range of other new features in the latest version of the Sky Q software. One of these is the improved voice search functionality, which allows users to find their favorite shows, movies, and even specific episodes by simply speaking into the remote. This feature is particularly beneficial for those who find typing on a remote cumbersome. For example, you can say “Find The Crown” and instantly be directed to the series, saving you time and effort.
Another notable addition is the enhanced user interface, which has been redesigned to be more intuitive and user-friendly. The new interface includes larger thumbnails, better-organized categories, and a more responsive menu system. This makes it easier for users to navigate through the vast library of content available on Sky Q. For instance, the new layout allows you to quickly switch between live TV, recorded shows, and on-demand content with minimal clicks.
Sky has also introduced a feature called “Fluid Viewing,” which allows you to pause a show in one room and continue watching it in another. This is particularly useful for households with multiple Sky Q boxes. Imagine you’re watching a movie in the living room but need to move to the bedroom; with Fluid Viewing, you can pick up right where you left off without any hassle.
Moreover, the update includes performance improvements and bug fixes, ensuring a smoother and more reliable viewing experience. These enhancements are designed to make Sky Q not just a TV service, but a comprehensive entertainment platform that meets the needs of modern viewers.
