Whenever a new gadget is released, someone somewhere thinks it is a good idea to cover it in diamonds, precious metals, or even Swarovski crystals. The latest gadget to get an expensive makeover is the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Harrods in the UK are selling a Samsung Galaxy Tab Crystal Edition, which has been covered in more than 5,700 Swarovski crystals, whilst the Galaxy Tab logo has been created using Jet Hematite.
The Appeal of Luxury Gadgets
We are not sure why you would want one of these expensive Galaxy Tabs, but I am sure there are some people out there who would buy it for the rather pricey sum of £2,699, about $4,200. The appeal of luxury gadgets often lies in their exclusivity and the status they confer upon their owners. For some, owning a device encrusted with crystals or precious metals is a way to showcase their wealth and taste. It’s not just about the functionality of the gadget but also about making a statement.
Luxury gadgets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab Crystal Edition are often seen as collector’s items. They are produced in limited quantities, making them rare and desirable. This rarity can drive up their value over time, making them a potential investment for those who can afford them. Additionally, the craftsmanship involved in creating such pieces is often of the highest quality, adding to their allure.
Examples of Other Luxury Gadgets
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Crystal Edition is not the first gadget to receive such a luxurious treatment. Over the years, several other devices have been given similar makeovers. For instance, the iPhone has seen numerous luxury editions, including versions covered in gold, platinum, and diamonds. One notable example is the iPhone 5 Black Diamond Edition, which was encrusted with 135 grams of 24-carat gold and featured a black diamond as the home button.
Another example is the Stuart Hughes Goldstriker iPhone 3GS Supreme, which was covered in 271 grams of 22-carat gold and adorned with 136 diamonds. The Apple logo on the back was also made of 53 diamonds. This particular model was priced at a staggering $3.2 million, making it one of the most expensive phones ever created.
Luxury laptops have also made their mark in the tech world. The Luvaglio laptop, for instance, is a bespoke device that can be customized with precious metals and stones according to the buyer’s preferences. It features a 17-inch LED screen, a 128GB solid-state drive, and a Blu-ray drive. The power button is a rare diamond, and the laptop comes with a price tag of around $1 million.
These examples highlight the lengths to which manufacturers and designers will go to create unique, high-end versions of everyday gadgets. While the functionality of these devices remains the same as their standard counterparts, the added luxury elements make them stand out and appeal to a niche market of affluent buyers.
