Samsung has not released any details on when their Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will be getting the Android Pie update.
Now the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus running Android 9.0 Pie has been spotted on Geekbench, you can see the listing in the photo below.
So it looks like Samsung has started to test out the new Android Pie software on its Galaxy S9 flagship smartphones.
What is Android 9.0 Pie?
Android 9.0 Pie is the ninth major update and the 16th version of the Android operating system. It was first released as a developer preview in March 2018 and publicly released in August 2018. This version of Android introduces several new features and improvements over its predecessor, Android Oreo. Some of the key features include a new gesture-based navigation system, an adaptive battery that uses machine learning to prioritize system resources for the apps you use most, and an adaptive brightness feature that adjusts screen brightness based on your preferences and environment.
Additionally, Android Pie brings a new dashboard that helps users understand their digital habits, including how much time they spend on their device and in which apps. This is part of Google’s Digital Wellbeing initiative aimed at helping users achieve a healthier balance with technology.
Samsung’s Update History
Samsung has a mixed history when it comes to rolling out Android updates. While the company is known for its high-quality hardware, it has often been criticized for being slow to release software updates. This is partly due to the extensive customization Samsung applies to the Android operating system through its One UI skin. These customizations require additional testing and development time, which can delay the release of updates.
For example, the Galaxy S8 series received the Android Oreo update several months after it was released by Google. However, Samsung has been making efforts to improve its update speed. The company has been participating in Google’s Project Treble, which aims to make it easier for manufacturers to update their devices to new versions of Android.
What to Expect from the Update
When the Android Pie update finally arrives for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, users can expect a range of new features and improvements. One of the most anticipated features is the new gesture-based navigation system, which replaces the traditional navigation buttons with swipe gestures. This is designed to make it easier to navigate large-screen devices with one hand.
Another significant improvement is the adaptive battery feature, which uses machine learning to extend battery life by prioritizing power for the apps and services you use most frequently. This can result in noticeable improvements in battery life, especially for heavy users.
The update will also bring a revamped notification system, with more interactive and informative notifications. For example, you can now see images and stickers directly in your notifications, and reply to messages without opening the app.
As yet there are no details on when Android Pie will land on the Galaxy S9 handsets, as soon as we get some more information on when it will be released, we will let you guys know.
