The Samsung Galaxy S is one of the first smartphone to receive the WiFi Direct certification from the WiFi Alliance. WiFi Direct is a new way for devices to connect to each other over WiFi without the need for a router.
WiFi Direct will let you connect a range of WiFi enabled gadgets, like mobile phones, cameras, computers, printers on a one to one basis rather than through a router.
Any WiFi enabled device is capable of receiving the certification, by using an approved firmware update that complies with the protocol, so we can expect to see many more smartphone receive the certification.
