Samsung announced the much-awaited phablet, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, along with the groundbreaking Samsung Galaxy Gear at IFA in Berlin. The phablet is slated for launch by the end of this month for several countries. Now, the Korean giant launched the device in India for ₹49,900 ($790) along with Galaxy Gear that would cost a whopping ₹29,900 ($473).
Specifications and Features
The Indian variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will come with Exynos 5 Octa processor along with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display sporting 1080p resolution. This ensures that users will experience vibrant colors and deep blacks, making it ideal for media consumption and gaming. Other specifications include 3GB RAM, which is substantial for multitasking and running demanding applications smoothly. The device also offers 32GB internal storage with a microSD card slot, allowing users to expand storage up to an additional 64GB, which is perfect for those who need extra space for apps, photos, and videos.
The 13-megapixel camera on the Galaxy Note 3 is designed to capture high-quality images and videos, featuring various modes and settings to enhance photography. The 3,200 mAh battery ensures that the device can last through a full day of heavy usage, which is crucial for power users. Additionally, the Galaxy Note 3 runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, providing a smooth and responsive user experience with access to a wide range of apps and services from the Google Play Store.
Market Competition and Challenges
The price of both these devices might be considered high by normal users in the country. There are many other low-cost alternatives available in the market such as MicroMax and Lava. These brands offer smartphones with competitive specifications at a fraction of the cost, making them attractive options for budget-conscious consumers. For instance, MicroMax’s Canvas series and Lava’s Iris series have gained popularity for their affordability and decent performance.
Samsung might have a tough time selling its flagship phablet, especially Samsung Galaxy Gear that comes with an expensive price tag. The Galaxy Gear, while innovative, is priced significantly higher than other smartwatches available in the market. It offers features such as notifications, fitness tracking, and the ability to make calls directly from the watch, but these features may not justify the high cost for many users.
However, Samsung’s brand reputation and the premium build quality of its devices could attract consumers who are looking for a high-end experience. The Galaxy Note 3’s S Pen functionality, which includes features like Air Command, Action Memo, and Screen Write, offers unique productivity tools that are not available on many other devices. This could be a significant selling point for professionals and creative users who need advanced note-taking and drawing capabilities.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear will go on sale starting September 25th. It will be interesting to see how the market responds to these high-end devices and whether Samsung can maintain its position as a leader in the smartphone industry amidst growing competition from more affordable brands.
